Ingredients


1/4 cup butter
1 loaf French bread, cut into 3/4-inch slices
1/2 cup milk, or as needed
3 eggs
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup molasses
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 pinch salt, or to taste
2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar for dusting, or to taste


Direction


In a small saucepan, melt butter on low heat, then take away from
the heat and let the butter cool to room temperature.

Use aluminum foil to line a 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish and
coat pan with cooking spray lightly.

Place slices of bread into baking dish, either flat or tightly fit
together, or standing at an angle and overlapping a little if
needed.

In a bowl, whisk salt, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, allspice, cinnamon,
molasses, maple syrup, eggs and milk. Blend in melted butter.
Drizzle bread with egg mixture and milk while turning bread to
make sure both sides of bread slices are moistened evenly. Use
aluminum foil to cover dish and chill for a minimum of one hour
to overnight.

Heat the oven to 175 ° C or 350 ° F.

Take the baking dish out of the fridge. Take off the cover and use
any excess liquid in the pan to baste slices of bread.

In the preheated oven, bake for 20-25 minutes, until bread turn
golden brown and firm. Take the baking dish out of oven and let
it rest about 10 minutes. Dust confectioners ’ sugar over top and
serve.
